My phone is not or poorly responding to my Tap Out Point (NFC)

On this page

If your phone doesn’t react when you tap your Tap Out Point, the cause is almost always related to your phone’s NFC hardware, settings, or antenna placement. This page helps you fix the issue quickly.

    1. Find your phone’s NFC antenna “sweet spot”

Every Android phone places the NFC antenna in a different location.
    Common locations include:

    • Next to the camera module
    • In the upper middle of the back
    • Rarely: near the bottom

If you tap in the wrong location, the phone may not detect Tap Out at all. 👉 Check your device’s NFC location here:

Slowly slide your phone over the Tap Out Point until you feel a vibration or see an NFC popup.

    2. Make sure NFC is turned on

Tap Out uses your phone’s built-in NFC scanner.
Check: Settings → Connections / Wireless → NFCOn

On some phones this option is called “Tap & Pay” or “Near Field Communication”.

    3. Remove your phone case (especially thick or metal ones)

Metal, magnets, and thick cases weaken the NFC signal.
    If your phone has:

    • A metal bumper
    • MagSafe-style magnetic ring
    • A thick rubberized case

Try removing it and tapping again

    4. Hold the phone still for 1–2 seconds

Phones with weaker NFC antennas need a stable tap.
Hold your phone flat and still over the Tap Out Point while tapping.

    5. Restart your phone

A simple restart sometimes fixes broken NFC processes.

    6. Test with another phone or NFC scanner app

If another phone, especially an iPhone responds instantly, your original device likely has:

    • A weak NFC antenna
    • Poor antenna placement
    • Outdated firmware
    • Known NFC issues (see list below)

This is, unfortunately, because NFC performance varies widely across Android models. If it does not respond, you likely have a defective Tap Out Point. Please reach out - we will ensure to send you a new one.

If you want to check whether your phone does respond to the NFC tag with another app, you can use:

    • NXP TagInfo
    • NFC Tools

If these apps read the tag, the problem is with the Tap Out app — not the Tap Out Point.
